Taunton Deane Liberal Democrats confirmed Gideon Amos OBE as the Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for Taunton Deane in the snap June General Election called by Prime Minister Theresa May’s Conservatives. Gideon came a decent second with an increased vote for the Lib Dems and plans to continue fighting for the residents of Taunton Deane.

Commenting before the recent general election, Gideon said:

“The Conservatives now seem bent on the opposite of what they once stood for, they are abandoning free trade by leaving the Single Market that they helped create, national debt has increased and the union of the UK has been destabilised. They’re even hinting they will end the index linking that LibDem Pensions Minister Steve Webb introduced.”

“For people in need the outlook is even bleaker – the NHS is straining without the necessary investment, while those in difficult jobs are having tax credits removed just as Universal Credit prevents any money coming through for six weeks. It’s no wonder our local Foodbank says they are buckling under a massive increase in people at their door, or that UK child poverty has gone up to 400,000 children, most in working families.”

"We desperately need an MP for Taunton Deane who is willing to stand up to this Government and make the case for all of Taunton Deane’s residents.”
