News announced that NORTON MANOR CAMP is to be saved!
We have recently received excellent news that the Norton Manor Camp is to be saved! After our campaigning and efforts, it appears that our words were heard. The sensible decision has been made to keep the Royal Marines here, enriching our community and security. We are extremely pleased to have been successful.
However, we have seen a previous U-turn on the issue of closure, so are determined to keep up the campaign and pressure to make sure that the site remains open and that our Marines stay there. Please continue to share and sign our petition, making sure that this issue is kept at the forefront.
There is still room for celebration at this great news, though! Thank you all for your support and hard work.
SAVE OUR ROYAL MARINES
The Royal Marines are unique in their skills and training, the government has planned to cut 200 Royal Marine positions to fill gaps in the Navy, leaving Britain with less specialist forces. The Conservative Government had previously planned before the announcement in February to close Norton Manor camp in Taunton and move 40 Commando to Plymouth. removing them and the vital link between community and the military that has been here for more than 40 years, would be damaging to everyone.
See our analysis of how much the Marines contribute to our local economy here.
We the undersigned call on the Conservative Government to halt the cuts to the Royal Marines and to rule out any planned closure of Norton Manor Camp, Taunton.
We will include your name, email and address/postcode when submitting this petition to the Department of Defence
