The Taunton Deane Liberal Democrats are working to build a stronger economy in a fairer society, enabling everyone to get on in life.
The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which no one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity.
We champion the freedom, dignity and well-being of individuals, we acknowledge and respect their right to freedom of conscience and their right to develop their talents to the full.
We aim to disperse power, to foster diversity and to nurture creativity. We believe that the role of the state is to enable all citizens to attain these ideals, to contribute fully to their communities and to take part in the decisions which affect their lives.
We promote human rights and open government, a sustainable economy which serves genuine need, public services of the highest quality, international action based on a recognition of the interdependence of all the world’s peoples and responsible stewardship of the earth and its resources.
Vince Cable speaking at September Liberal Democrat Conference:
Residents’ dismay as Taunton Deane Borough Council votes through 1600 new homes with only 15% affordable housing
WHY JOIN US?
Thousands of Taunton families are celebrating after the Government U turn on taking tax credits away from working people, following a motion in Parliament put down by LibDems to scrap the measure.
Despite the very real shortage of affordable homes, the Conservative Government is forcing Housing Associations to sell theirs off, reminding people of Mrs Thatcher's selling off Council Housing. Lib Dems are committed to building more affordable homes and oppose the selling off of these properties.
We oppose to sell of Adult Social Services to a troubled private provider which will result in poorer care for vulnerable people
We are also passionate about funding the NHS and education appropriately as well as enabling social mobility in our society whilst providing value for money.
