Wellington branch of the Liberal Democrats thank their volunteers

The Wellington branch of the Liberal Democrats staged a special thank-you for its many volunteer helpers on Friday.

The event, which took place in Bulford Hall, consisted of an afternoon tea and musical entertainment.

Those present were welcomed by Gideon Amos, the party’s Parliamentary candidate for Taunton and Wellington.

He was joined by Somerset and town councillors, along with Steve Mercer who is standing for the party in the forthcoming by-election to Wellington Town Council.

Mr Amos said: “I was absolutely delighted to say a huge thank-you to everyone for coming out with me and the team in all weathers to deliver leaflets and listen to local people and their concerns.

“More and more people in Wellington are telling me they’re unhappy with the cost of living and the state of our NHS after so many years of Conservative government.

“The fact they promised a new hospital for our area at the last election, but apparently were never going to deliver one, is just an example.

“It’s great to see how positive our team is about getting the change we need and see it growing into a force to win this Parliamentary seat at the General Election.”

Branch officers also confirmed the date of their next meeting - the latest in a series of popular events giving the opportunity for local people to debate local issues.

The event, entitled ‘Wellington Tomorrow - a brighter future for our town’, will be on April 9th, in the Scout Hall – Wellington’s former Liberal Club.

Speakers will include a representative of Cash Access UK on the proposed new Banking Hub and David Northey, Network Rail’s expert on Wellington Station, who will speak on public transport plans generally.
